Kick Start: Healthy Food Brands for 2018

Diet plays an important role when it comes to our health. Not only does it nourish our body, it impacts how we feel along with determining future risks.

It is unsurprising therefore, that we are becoming more conscious of where our food comes from and the impact it has on our health.

Behind this movement are a number of fresh faced brands - here’s a list of our favourites at Thriva:

Farmdrop is fast becoming the default choice for grocery shopping in the Thriva office. As the name suggests, they make it incredibly convenient to get locally sourced produce delivered to the comfort of your own home. By promoting organic producers along with mouthwatering recipes, Farmdrop are showing how simple it can be to source locally and ethically.

Mr Organic

2017 was a big year for Mr. Organic, as they expanded their product range and added Waitrose and Holland & Barrett as stockists. Their mission is to make organic food more accessible by rivalling household cupboard classics such as ketchup, pasta sauces and spreads. And, any chocolate spread that has a gold Great Taste award is worth trying out in our books.

The Tofoo Co

The Tofoo Company are changing how we think about tofu - no longer is it a bland, sometimes soggy, protein replacement. Available in a range of flavours, the Tofoo Co, are showing that they can make a dish sing.

Allplants are on a mission to empower more people to embrace a plant-based diet. They offer freshly prepared, frozen meals delivered to your doorstep, with dishes such as Cashew Mac and Fiery Jerk Jackfruit on offer. All their meals are designed with nutrition in mind and help address some of the key concerns around a plant-based diet.

Strong Roots

When you think of frozen vegetables you probably think frozen peas - the freezer staple. Well, Samuel from Strong Roots is out to change that perception. He’s bringing underground flavours to everyone’s freezer with his range of frozen vegetables. With products such as Oven Baked Sweet Potato Fries, Beetroot & Bean Burgers and every millennial’s favourite - Ripened Avocado Halves - he is proving that your freezer can be more exciting than just peas.

Healthy snacking:

Nut butters, such as almond or cashew, have grown in popularity over recent years, but sometimes you can’t beat some peanut butter. Manílife uses Argentinian peanuts and promises an intense mouthful of flavour. Made with 100% natural ingredients in small batches expect a creamy, crunchier taste.

Ember Snacks

Born from feeling peckish whilst ironman training, Ember Snacks are packed with protein and contain zero sugar - a perfect combination for those looking for a snack to tame those cravings. The Ember Brothers, Harry & Jack, take pride in their produce and ensure they work with independent suppliers who share their passion for animal welfare.

Relatively new to the UK market, Wyldsson provide plant-based snacks as well as shakes and breakfast cereals. By experimenting with different ingredients and having the focus on plants, Wyldsson offer a healthier, sugar free alternative to snacking. What we find particularly nice from their product range are the refill snack tubes - taking snacking on the go to a whole new level.

We couldn’t do a food blog without a nod to it’s favourite companion - a chilled beverage. Although healthy drinks could also have a dedicated post we’ll keep it short and sweet (sugar-free) for now.

Get Nourished

Only launched this month, Get Nourished is your artificial, lactose and gluten free hit of iced coffee packed with protein. After such an impressive product launch we’re excited to see what else they have in store.

Ugly have been making waves in the soft drink space for a couple of years now and have become an office favourite here at Thriva HQ. Their drinks provide a healthier alternative to the likes of Coca Cola, Lucozade and Iron-Bru that sometimes sneak into the office. With a range of different flavours and no added sugars or sweeteners they are the perfect lunch time companion.

There are many more brands we didn’t have time to mention, but we hope this snippet has your mouth watering. If you think there are others that we absolutely need to know about then get in touch - we have no problem doing a taste test!
