New Hope in Cancer Fight
Most people assume that you can pick up most cancers with a blood test. Unfortunately, they're wrong. The majority of cancers are generally detected through a combination of tests and consultation with experts to discuss pain factors etc.
Well. Perhaps not for long!
A study by the folks at the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) has identified something within your DNA signature that gives the game away.
Here's the sciency bit:
The research postulates 'that an increased presence of methylation traces, a process that regulates gene expression, around the gene called ZNF154, could point to cancerous developments in the body. The so-called hypermethylation is said to turn off genes designed to prevent tumours from spreading'.
There are limitations however. The technique is better at identifying advanced tumours and intermediate but not so good at picking up early stage cancers.
